Welcome!

I’ve been documenting my creative endeavors since 2014. Thoughts on the creative process, my travels, shows, new ideas and what’s on my easel are just a few things I post on. Feel free to linger…

First Sketch for Maryland Landscapes Show Complete

I mentioned last week that I have a deadline next week for the Maryland Landscapes show at West Annapolis Artworks.  Well, next week is approaching and I need to get a move on.  I was considering one large and two small pieces, but I think I'm going to do two large and one small now.  Key thing being at least three pieces.

I have a sketch transferred to a prepped canvas that I'm happy with.  It's very linear, which will be difficult to keep tight on such a smallish painting (12x12), but I'm going to give it a try.

The subject of the composition is a farm that I love in Northern Baltimore County.  There are hundreds of paint-worthy farms around here and I do hope to paint them all before I take my dirt nap.  That said, this is my second farmscape of the area, the other will also be featured in the show.

Here's a photo!

I like to use ink to sketch on the canvas because it holds up to paint better and helps me meet tighter lines.  That's imperative when executing such a trim little grouping of buildings like this one.  The farm I used for reference is alwa…

I like to use ink to sketch on the canvas because it holds up to paint better and helps me meet tighter lines.  That's imperative when executing such a trim little grouping of buildings like this one.  The farm I used for reference is always immaculate and I want that to be the case on canvas as well.

This week I'll be painting in the studio Wednesday and Friday barring no more ice.  Geez, am I behind on my work!  No school today, and not much last week.  I seriously need a vacation from my little people :)
