Today I had a great day at the kitchen table! My buddy, Sally, borrowed my easel last week, so when I got inspiration today for a new piece, I ran out to get a new canvas then returned home just to remember that my beloved easel is out of town.
That was fine enough, because there was a flood of sun pushing through the sinister clouds above and into my kitchen, finding a place to rest on (of all places), the sallow canvas resting on the table, waiting for life.
It all happened so quickly. Two hours later, I had a composition complete enough to contemplate potentially keeping it as is. It was a great feeling--a euphoric rush--as I laid down thinned acrylics and swished them around with my brush, fingers, and spray bottle. In some spots, the paint pulled away entirely, and that blank space formed sea spray. It was really something to witness. I'm beyond thrilled with how the session went today.
I have the painting up on pegs, drying, as I soaked the thing (and the plastic sheet underneath that apparently had holes in it) and the table that my husband loves, which caused a mid-day spat but whatever, I can't help that the paint wanted to be on the table!
Here are some photos. Stay tuned for some up against a blank wall tomorrow so you can see the colors better.
I want to send a most warm hello tonight to Norway, Jackson (Michigan) as well as Columbus, Ohio! I hope that everyone is keeping warm and I thank you for taking time from your busy day to visit me!
