I had some fun with a credit card today in the studio using it as a tool to spackle paint directly from the tube to the canvas. I love the look of chunky, textured, multi-layered paint, so I’ve been laying down a few colors over the past week, trying to build it up and dry it enough so that it doesn’t come up when I apply additional layers. Ideally, the layers would dry completely, then I can scratch off here and there to reveal the underpainting. I’m really a fan of this technique, but it is time consuming and a little risky because the outcome is very much a surprise in these paintings.
So I used the credit card to drag paint layers across, initially, then again, with each new layer. I ended up with a pretty fun, rather abstract piece that I still need to add a little highlighting and low lighting to. I used some almost neon lime green and have an idea for a major contrast tomorrow.
Here’s what I have so far of my “credit card painting”:
I want to thank everyone who has been following along these many years as I post new work and explore my mediums and compositions, color, contrast, and subject matter. Thank you this week to viewers in the Netherlands, Philippines, and a few local folks here in the Mid-Atlantic!
