Good afternoon and Happy Valentine’s Day which looks very different, depending on who and where you are, and who you call family and loved ones. In our home, Valentine’s Day is a day in which acts of service are plentiful, meals together, and there is always an abundance of laughter as well as minor sibling confrontations.
Today, my husband put up two sets of drapery rods/curtains, overhauled our boy’s closets and toy bins, and replaced a thermostat. The girls and I made a giant (!) 84sf chalkboard paint wall for them to draw on. They both enjoy anime. I don’t get it, but I haven’t truly enjoyed animation since the Thundercats back in the 80’s. I always thought perhaps I could be Cheetara (sp?), since I have an uncanny number of “beauty marks” on my shoulders and back.
The sexy steak dinners that my husband and I used to enjoy on Valentine’s Day with a very full bodied Cab Franc has been replaced with street tacos (mahi mahi), fresh squeezed lemonade, and some assorted salads and fruits with the kiddos. My idea of the perfect evening has really changed. If only we were all on Coronado eating fish tacos at La Salsa and walking down Orange Ave. towards the beach!
I didn’t get any sun today, but I did get a little bit of time at my easel yesterday and today. I have a photo for you of the palette I’m looking to explore and the fun patina copper/aged brass look of the leafing I laid down on the canvas with adhesive. I fiddled with the metal sheets quite a bit so they look less fussy/blingy. Since tooling around with the mixing of metals in my own home decor, I thought having a piece with the same flavor might be fun to try.
I’ll be focusing on cool blues, cream, white, and some Payne’s Grey mixed in for shades/light. The metal tones will add a contrasting warmth. At this point, the composition is still very loose and is not yet telling me what it intends to be. Hopefully, tomorrow I’ll have some clarity in that regard.
Thank you for stopping by today-
Jen :)
