Welcome!

I’ve been documenting my creative endeavors since 2014. Thoughts on the creative process, my travels, shows, new ideas and what’s on my easel are just a few things I post on. Feel free to linger…

New Work on my Easel...

Good evening! It’s Thursday, which is always a blessing because the weekend is drawing near, and I’ll have a little time to work on house projects, and spent late nights at my easel without having to wake up early the next morning to get the four kiddos fed, teeth brushed, dressed, lunches made, in the car, then to school onetime. Weekday mornings are a total blur.

Last weekend, I resurfaced our laundry/mudroom area. I painted the entire area in “permafrost”, a cool pale blue with a hint of violet. It really brightens up the room! I also painted the trim and window interiors. The previous owner really, really loved golden yellow, so every wall, every yard of wood trim, and window sashes are painting in this hue. I used to like yellow quite a bit until it was a major player in each and every room. Now I feel like i’m getting sunburned in my own home.

After painting, I retiled the perimeter with really lovely 6x6” terra cotta Spanish (Spain, not Mexico) tiles, and had the hubby replace the very dated faucet and hardware with something cleaner, simple, but much more functional. It looks really nice! This weekend, I’ll be building shelves in there because I cannot stand clutter all over the countertops. With four kids and a fella that has an abundance of tools and gadgets, more shelving is a definitive need not a want.

I think I determined this after I picked up a long black very heavy thing that looks like a giant hole puncher. I was trying to figure out what it was and why it had been living on the counter (for four months!) that is meant for folding laundry. When I tipped the mystery object on it’s side, the damn thing dumped two cups of oil all over my jeans, bare feet, the cabinets and floor. It also made the tiled floors incredibly slick and getting that oil off of everything took nearly an hour. What exactly was that black thing that I moved? A man-sized knife sharpener for dudes with machete sized slicing instruments. I was not happy. Thank God for Tide!

Anyhow, I have a 24x24” piece in my little studio that I’m been working on this week. It has metal leaf and eight or more layers of paint. I’m building a really highly textured piece that somehow still has a very neutral look to it. I added some Cadmium Yellow Deep and plan to brighten it up even more tomorrow with more saturated hues and some washes for added interest and depth. I’m very happy with it so far and anticipate having it finished Saturday (or so). It is not yet named. Have an idea for a name? Use my contact page to share.
