Welcome!

I’ve been documenting my creative endeavors since 2014. Thoughts on the creative process, my travels, shows, new ideas and what’s on my easel are just a few things I post on. Feel free to linger…

Winter Studio Challenge: Wyoming Lone Cowpoke Edition

This week, I challenged fellow Plein Air Painters of Northwest Michigan (PAPNWM) to a winter studio challenge using photos provided by my good buddy and Leelanau Co Native, Laura Mains, who is again in the mountains of Wyoming, spending time with her perfect little new grandbaby, Sonny. Her daughter and soon to be son in law work for a dude ranch and Laura pinch hits while she visits! She’s an avid horsewoman and an all around badass granny.

Laura sent me the gorgeous photo below, and I shared it (and two others) with PAPNMW in an effort to have each artist paint their own interpretation of the scene in a style of their own. I started my own today, prepping a long canvas with two layers of nice acrylic leftover from another project. I need to be honest here, I’ve had a difficult time painting in recent months and haven’t completed anything that I’d want to share. It’s just been unusually dark and cold. But today, the sun came back, if only for a day, and recharged me like nothing else.

You want to take a stab at drawing/painting the photo yourself? All mediums welcome! No experience required! You can tag me on LinkedIn (Jennifer Rynbrandt, Studio Artist)) with your post and please provide a nice image of your finished painting as well!

I want to thank all the visitors to my site this week. I’ve been blown away at all the countries represented! Denmark, China, Germany, Netherlands, Belize, SIngapore, Canada, and Pakistan! I don’t think I’ve ever had a visitor from Pakistan so hello and welcome!

Below is my little canvas and inspiration photo posted next to it. Notice the light in the room! No joke, my studio has been so sad without it the last few months. Winter is long and dark here. Scroll down for the gorgeous inspiration photo. Thank you, Laura!!!

I’m ready to go! The pink/lavender underpainting will help the next layers pop and add depth.

See you later this week with some progress on this piece….I’ll try and post some photos from PAPNWM as well as they are submitted.

Santa brought me new watercolors!
