I've been on a several month project that will showcase some of my work in Downeast Maine! I'm working with a local furniture refurbisher/designer (hello Sarah!) of Brightworks, in Freeport Maine, to outfit a 1900's cottage with unique furniture and art that will serve as a AirBNB/Homeaway rental for the owner.
I believe that art and design go hand in hand, and this has no kidding, been the most fun I've has so far this year! I'll post photos as we get rooms done, but I'm only going to be there four times before the summer arrives and the cottage goes live.
I conceptualized a palette from either paintings I've done or textiles. For the MBR, for instance, I used an Italian made pebble leather bag that I purchased eight years ago but never wear because I'm afraid it will get dirty (I know, that's ridiculous). The colors are a lovely bright turquoise, buttercup yellow, and a creamy white.
I love this color combo!
The oak queen headboard will be refinished in buttercup. And I found a beautiful (!) ceramic pale teal lamp at the Goodwill for $6.99 this week including a lovely linen drum shade. Sarah is redoing an armoire for me in the turquoise, then I will accent with a colorful vintage quilt on the bed and a bench upholstered in a vintage West Point Cadet blanket that just so happens to have a strong gold stripe through it on a thick and hearty medium gray wool background.
I'll be sewing pillows made from discarded felted wool and sourcing accent pieces including some floating side tables painted in a creamy white. I believe all the walls in the cottage will be Benjamin Moore's Dove White. I'll firm that up after I meet with the flooring guy next week. I need to know if the 100 year old hardwood floors under the carpet are savable! Then comes the plumber to inspect the original soapstone sink that had been removed 10-years ago and has been sitting outside the cottage. Luckily, it was upside-down!
I'll tell you more tomorrow and will have some inspiration photos....very tired!
I've not been painting much the past weeks while on design duty! But I have a show coming up in November and will be starting a large new piece next week in my batik method of painting. It will be a figurative/nightsky composition. I'll post it once it's sketched out!
Thanks for reading and sorry no eye candy tonight! Stay tuned!
...and a warm hello to the Northern Rhine region of Germany, Ohio, Portland, and NYC!
