Last night I had a couple hours to paint with our second grade son.
All my children love to be in the studio with me (except for our thirteen year old girl who is in a rather grumpy teenage stage). And last night, I had a rare opportunity to be alone with the little guy without the others filing in, being loud, making a mess of my paints, fighting, rearranging my supplies, etc.
As much as I appreciate time with him, he is unfortunately, my most verbal critic in the house. He’s worse than my apathetic husband (who simply is not a fan of anything beyond realism). Let’s just call my little guy “T”.
I decided to begin using smaller canvases for palettes since I am more cognizant of my supplies these days. It is very hard to get the paint I use under the current circumstances, and many of the suppliers are not open or are out of what I need and don’t have a restocking date. So, I’m being very frugal with my paints, which I should have been all along, I suppose…
Last night I used the canvas palette from the weekend painting, “Sowing Season” to create another little farmscape. Except for this time, T was in my studio, dictating which colors and shapes I needed to slap down. He is like his father, not into abstract, and each time I began to stray from perfectly geometric shapes or colors that are not true to life, I got a verbal spanking.
So, below is the little painting (not complete) that he and I worked on together last night. I plan to finish it when he’s not looking this afternoon . I had different ideas for the sky and also the pastures, so I hope to make it less tidy, more abstract, while he’s on a Googlemeets with his class for school today.
Here’s what I have so far:
Thank you for stopping by! I’ll have more posted late tonight.
