Last night I had an idea for a painting at about 7pm, which is usually the time of day when I’m out of steam and settle into my favorite chair to have tea with my kids and wind down. But, creativity comes in waves for many of us, and when a promising idea lands on your melon, you simply need to go with it. So, I scurried into my tiny studio and put my apron on, my gloves, and started mixing colors.
I got about three hours in last night, laying down the underpainting then letting that dry a bit before working on the composition which is a rather linear abstract. I’m using a soft, cool palette, but plan to add in some earthy tones as highlights toward the end.
Today, after I finished all my house chores (as we do every Saturday), and helped my fella brew a batch of beer he’s affectionately named, “Pandemic Porter”, I still had an hour of sunlight to work with and another three or so hours with the architect’s lamp hovering over the 48x48 canvas stationed on the work table before I needed to stop due to a overly wet canvas. Had I continued, the start of something lovely, would have ended up a muddy brown mess.
Below: A photo of the in-process piece which I am pretty stoked about so far.
Thank you for stopping by today! I’ll have more in-process photos tomorrow.
