Second time in under a year that a painting was hijacked. I was painting over the weekend—a second piece in a series devoted to abstract water features, both above and below, when my piece began to morph into something that I was not expecting.
I had this piece on it side and it was supposed to be a vertical piece, 16x 20 I believe. When I turned it on it’s side to do a little shading, I noticed (it was hard not to) that a flamingo bird had made itself on my canvas.
It could be the fact that we did not exceed 10 degrees over the weekend. That coupled with 14+ inches of snow had me dreaming of sunshine and warmth on my (now very pasty-white) skin.
I thought about covering up the imposter bird, then decided against it, citing the hilarity of how serious I was at making a statement abstract piece when in actuality, I ended up with a heap of whimsy. Such is life.
So, this piece which will be named, “Tidal Flats”, after a lower Florida flamingo habitat (have you ever hear of “Conchey” the flamingo that breached the Naval Base near Key West?). I supposed I needed a little whimsy after all.
