Welcome!

I’ve been documenting my creative endeavors since 2014. Thoughts on the creative process, my travels, shows, new ideas and what’s on my easel are just a few things I post on. Feel free to linger…

False Starts and Framed Suits....

There’s a reason that artists are sometimes introverted, quiet types that like to be alone while they work. Noise and distractions indeed murder creativity and flow.

I experience this often.—making a dent in a new canvas just to lose it the following day. My paintings often take 15+ hours to complete. More for the larger works. So staying on task is essential which is a tall order when working from home in a snowy place where we’re all stuck inside together. You cannot imagine the clutter on the floors, counters, bedrooms, and in my head.

And, I love being with my family and don’t want to miss anything. The result of that is inconsistency in my postings, although I always have something going on my easel.

The piece I’m sharing today is a biggie. It’s a 36” square that is inspired by a vintage women’s swimsuit that a viewer (Helen) shared with me this week. It was her mother-in-law’s swimsuit and it lives on her wall.

I took another look at the photo she sent of the suit before reworking a piece that I started last week. Like many things in life that one can be passionate about, if you don’t finish that something while you have momentum, the drive, and the time, you risk the ability to find where you left off. This is the case with this canvas. It has been reworked three times already. But three times is a charm, right? I hope so. Enter the swimsuit for inspiration :) Thank you, Helen!

And below is the new piece inspired by the colors in the swimsuit. Although the subject matter and composition are quite different (summer vs. winter, composed vs. abstract, etc), the hues are similar.

I’m hoping to work on this piece over the weekend and finish up Monday. Inquiries can be made via my contact page on this site.

Thank you for stopping by!

Jen :)
