Hello and a peaceful holiday weekend to you all, for those celebrating a holy day, and peace to those who are simply celebrating the arrival of spring.
I began a new papercut piece, using some scraps from Old Bayliner, a piece i completed last week, as well as some newly watercolored (and a little spray paint action!) on cold press paper that I’ve been shaping to fit a basic design. The design is really getting out of my hands, taking a little more time and detail than intended, but, all I can do is let it be what it ultimately wants to be. Otherwise, I’ll just be fighting whatever that is that determines what my finished work looks like.
This time of year, our family celebrates Easter. I’d like to think that my inspiration comes at least somewhat by where my head and heart are. My work comes together more easily, effortlessly, when I follow the lead that I believe comes from the Master Builder.
This Easter will be different than we’d planned. Actually, maybe better, less the fact that we won’t get the live music, the fellowship of fellow believers, or the fancy flowers adorning the front of the place where we worship. Instead, we will be celebrating the ten year anniversary of having a forever home after moving five times since I met and married my better half. We moved around a bit for his work, and I’d been saving magazine photos in a folder in the chance that one day, I’ll get to design my own home. And did I ever get that chance! It was the most fun I have ever had in my life! Ten years ago on Easter, our home was nearly done. The appliances weren’t in yet, and the painters were working feverishly to finish up the project. So, the kiddos and I went and bought a couple buckets of KFC, lots of biscuits, and all the other good stuff on the side, and brought it back to our soon to be new house, and had a wonderful Easter picnic on the back lawn. The painters enjoyed it as well, opening all the windows and painting with a paint brush in one hand and a chicken leg in the other!
I remember feeling like the luckiest girl in the world. Finally I’d have a home base, a place to land, and it was beyond anything I could have imagined years ago, moving from place to place that I was never that crazy about (although Ohio was pretty friendly). We noshed on chicken on a few bedsheets, drank big fountain sodas and the three kids ran around like their butts were on fire. It was truly perfect.
The only thing that will make this year’s Easter Chicken Picnic better, is that now we are six. God’s blessings do indeed sometimes multiply. It will be Teddy’s first Ten Year Easter Chicken Picnic and he couldn’t be more excited!
Thank you for stopping in today. I supposed I should just shut my pie hole here and post a photo :)
